What is “prevailing torque”?

Prevailing torque is the torque required to run a lock nut down a male thread due to an intentional interference in the nut. Auto-Lok designs achieve this with slotted geometry or inserts that apply spring pressure on the thread.

Are Auto-Lok nuts reusable?

Yes. When used within specification, Auto-Lok all-metal nuts maintain removal torque over multiple cycles, unlike nylon-insert nuts which degrade under heat and chemicals.

What standards do they meet?

Typical references include ISO 2320 (prevailing-torque test), ISO 898-2 (proof load) and NFE 27-024 for slotted ring performance. Check each product datasheet for exact compliance.
