  • How to Select Your Auto Lok Nut?

Selecting the right Auto-Lok nut is essential if you want a joint that stays tight under vibration, heat and dynamic loads. This short guide walks you through the key choices so you can confidently pick the correct self-locking nut for your application.

Use the steps below to decide which Auto-Lok series, material and thread you need, then match your selection to the correct part number.

Auto-Lok double slotted self-locking nut
  1. Define the loading and torque requirements
Start by identifying how much torque, vibration and dynamic loading the joint must withstand. Consider operating temperature, possible shock loads and how often the joint will be assembled and disassembled. This information will help you choose the locking style and series with adequate safety margin.
  2. Choose the locking style (Auto-Lok series)
Next, select the Auto-Lok series that best fits your assembly method, available space and required prevailing torque:
    • ALNd — Double Slotted: General-purpose self-locking nut for high vibration and dynamic loads.
    • ALNsdo — Double Slotted Opposite: For applications where a balanced slot layout or specific seating orientation is required.
    • ALNtpd — Two Point Deform: Deformed at two points to generate a strong prevailing torque in compact assemblies.
    • ALNs — Single Slotted: Single-slot design for standard duty locking with easy assembly and re-use.
    • ALNsh — Single Slotted, high height: Taller body for deeper thread engagement and higher clamp loads.
    • ALNssn — Metallic ring: Uses a metallic ring to provide all-metal locking where polymers are not allowed.
    • ALNv — Spring retain nut: Incorporates a spring element to maintain clamp load under fluctuating conditions.
  3. Select the material for your environment
Finally, choose the material that matches your operating environment and corrosion requirements:
    • Steel class: Suitable for many industrial and automotive applications where high strength is needed and corrosion is controlled by coatings or paint.
    • Stainless steel: Recommended for corrosive, outdoor or high-temperature environments where long-term durability is critical.

Once you know your locking style, thread and material, you can select the exact Auto-Lok part number from our catalogue.
